Male hair loss: Two great products to add volume to thinning hair

You may not be able to regrow all the hairs you’ve already lost, at least not without surgery. However, there are plenty of things you can do to improve the look of thinning hair. Whether you’re using a hair loss treatment especially for men such as prescription medications like Rogaine and Propecia, or low level laser therapy (LLLT) such as the Capillus272™, or you just want to work with the hair you do have, following a simple hair care routine, including using the right hair product(s), can help give the appearance of fuller and thicker looking hair.

Care for Thinning Hair

Johnny Depp, Jake Gyllenhaal and Channing Tatum may be able to pull off the slick, wet hair style, but it’s a definite no-no for any guy dealing with hair loss. Dirty, greasy/waxy hair lies flat and sticks together thereby exposing more of your scalp. Infrequent shampooing, and/or using any greasy/waxy styling product will actually accentuate your hair loss.

Choose the right shampoo for your hair

Contrary to some popular beliefs (read our blog on hair loss myths), guys with thinning hair should not be afraid to touch their hair. Clean hair looks thicker and healthier. Regular shampooing lets you stimulate and energize your scalp. Moisturizing shampoos coat the hair strand and may clog pours in your scalp. Using volumizing shampoo is better because it won’t leave behind a heavy residue on your hair.

Choose the right styling product

Forget trying to cover your balding areas with the Donald Trump comb-over. Instead, focus on choosing the right volume building hair products designed for men. Air drying can leave hair flat. If you have thinning hair or patches of baldness and want to add body and volume to your hair, use a blow dryer. Before you start drying your hair, spray it at the roots with a light weight styling/volumizing spray that leaves a matte finish. Beware. Some volume-building hair products contain paraffin, which is beeswax. Paraffin is not good for men with thinning hair, because it builds up with continued use and can cause your hair to break.
