Hair loss during menopause and perimenopause is not as commonly known a symptom as many of the other more familiar signs, such as fatigue, hot flashes, weight gain, and low sex drive. As a result, many women are caught off guard and unprepared for thinning hair. In addition, women have to deal with the double standard regarding aging and hair loss. For example a man is still thought of as masculine as he ages and starts shedding hair, but for women, the loss of hair is viewed as less feminine.
